Tracing the Cape Romain Archipelago

By Bob Raynor, 2009, Arcadia Publishing

"Between Myrtle Beach and Charleston lies the Cape Romain archipelago, which links with adjoining barrier islands to form a section of pristine, protected coast designated as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve... His captivating, firsthand descriptions of the area, which is under threat from coastal development, offer a priceless glimpse into one of South Carolina's most important natural treasures."

Hello! I am an engagement and information specialist with over 20 years of writing, editing, and photography experience. I have a Master’s in Information and Library Studies, which focused on archives and engagement.

I have written and edited for publications such as Fodor's Travel Guides, SC Alive Magazine, and various newspapers. As Member Experience Director for the YMCA, my focus was community engagement and support. I hosted workshops; trained employees on customer service and tour giving; planned events; and taught yoga, Pilates, and kickboxing.

I missed the academic setting, however, so in early 2018, I went to work in a university library.  After serving for a year in Access Services, where I worked with course reserves and open access resources, I moved into marketing and outreach. I plan displays, exhibits, and events in the library and collaborate with other colleges and departments on campus. I recently became the library's Administrative Coordinator.

My research interests are in cultural heritage literacy and engagement. Preserving cultural heritage is important, but, to what point, if it is not used or valued by our communities. In that vein, I recently co-founded Fox & Heron Literary Society as a means to promote reading, art, music, and theater to our local community.

Life Outside the Library

We do a lot of reading, road tripping, and kayaking.
