I was very honored to take part in one of the Fall 2019 Brew Crews. These informal talks are a way for students to get to know faculty and staff from around campus and in areas they may not otherwise have a chance to meet. These talks are hosted by the Intercultural and Inclusion Student Services in the student union. Topics can vary from favorite songs to significant life choices.
I was excited to go, but surprised at how much I truly enjoyed myself. Even the heavy questions. Being open about important issues like anxiety and depression is important. Some of our students are struggling with big things. Making connections with people who have been there and done that is a light in a dark place for them.
It was also fun for them to see our less serious side. It was remarkable the similarities in movies, books, and music we shared overall. We even learned new ones from each other.
This is a very low-key, informal event that could be easily hosted in a number of venues. I'm glad I participated and look forward to sitting in to listen in the future.
